Neighborhood Map U STREET CORRIDOR

When one thinks of famous areas that were once called "avant-garde", New York's SoHo and Greenwich Village usually take the claim to fame. However, the U Street Corridor also boasts an artistic heritage. Local jazz and rhythm and blues bars in the "Corridor" were frequented by jazz greats, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole. Comedy houses and coffeehouses often hosted the great comedian, Redd Foxx and the poet, Langston Hughes. Both Langston Huges and jazz king, Duke Ellington, spent many years growing up in the neighborhood.

In recent years, the U Street Corridor has undergone a major metamorphosis. The introduction of new developments such as The Lincoln Condominiums, Harrison Square Townhouse Community and now, City Lofts, an apartment-rental community, has spurred major renovation and upgrades to exiting rowhouses.

The commercial sector is a thriving metropolis with a plethora of opportunities for banking, international food tasting, boutique shopping, entertainment and purchasing standard household goods.

Transportation to any part of town is within walking distance. The subway Green Line is located only two blocks south of City Lofts at both 13th and U Streets and 10th and U Streets. The bus stop is right outside the door of City Lofts. There is also The Link, a new Metrobus Smart Shuttle that will take you to the heart of another famous District neighborhood, Adams Morgan.

The U Street Corridor offers an exciting blend of the new with the old and urban living as it was meant to be.
