Adams Morgan | Capitol Hill | Dupont | Palisades | Logan Circle | U Street
Dupont Circle is the most metropolitan
of all DC's neighborhoods.
Although the name technically refers to a traffic circle located in the center of the neighborhood, when locals say Dupont Circle they generally mean the entire area radiating off the circle north and south along Connecticut Avenue.
But the circle itself is literally and figuratively the heart of the neighborhood. The small park achieves what all trafic circles were meant to do: serve as a lively green space for neighbours to gather and socialize. The white marble fountain in the center of the circle is in honours Civil War hero Samuel Francis Dupont.
