Adams Morgan | Capitol Hill | Dupont | Palisades | Logan Circle | U Street

Adams Morgan

Once an elite neighborhood of rowhouses stacked on a hill in the 20's and 30's, Adams Morgan is now best known for its ethnic restaurants and thriving diversity. Its eclectic liveliness is reminiscent of many New York neighborhoods.

Adams Morgan got its name in the 1950s when progressive-minded residents came up with a plan to integrate blacks and whites in the area by merging the white Adams school and the black Morgan school. Now the area continues to attract a wide variety of nationalities.

18th Street, lined with numerous bars, restaurants and clubs provide endless entertainment, and, in the summer, becomes somewhat of a happy carnival at night, with people enjoying themselves on restaurant terraces along the strip.
